LITERARY VAMPIRE

Stories of vampires appeared not only in the collections of folk traditions, but also in newspaper news and official reports. For example in 1732 among soldiers

security measures. At the same time the higher authorities received a report of Haiduk on named Paul, who lived not far from Kosovo. Sudden death, he began to appear
near the house where lived a widow, attacked people and cattle, and sucked blood. As
written in the report, "Paul said when the body removed from the land on the third
month after the burial, it signified the body was not touched by decay, the same person deceased differed unnatural beauty. By decision of the village
headman indicated Paul was pierced with a stake, and his head was
severed ...". At this misfortune did not end there, because the widow of Paul, and his other relatives, and even those who happened to eat meat "spoiled" their cattle, were in turn vampires. The purpose of the reports in and was to receive from
superiors for permission to leave the unsafe Austrian soldiers village. So
formed the literary image of the vampire, which is quite different from
vampire folklore.
